Pirelli World Challenge: JCR Motorsports and Jeff Courtney preparing for 2015

By Johan Laubscher

JCR Motorsports is busy preparing for the 2015 season. They will be returning to the Pirelli World Challenge GT-A class with the #99 Audi R8 LMS ultra driven by Jeff Courtney.

An interview with Courtney was published by North American Sportscar (nasportscar.com) and this has confirmed that JCR Motorsports are preparing to return to the Pirelli World Challenge. It is very exciting news with another Audi R8 LMS ultra confirmed for the 2015 PWC grid, where multiple Audi teams are expected to compete in the ever-growing field of GT3 cars.

The JCR team joined the Audi Sport customer racing family at the beginning of 2013. They acquired the ex-Oryx Racing Audi R8 GRAND-AM that was seen in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series during 2012 and then competed at selected rounds of the 2013 Pirelli World Challenge. The car was then upgraded to the Audi R8 LMS ultra specification and was seen at five of the nine rounds of the 2014 Pirelli World Challenge, both years with Jeff Courtney behind the wheel.

The interview with Jeff Courtney on North American Sportscar can be read HERE.

Pirelli World Challenge: Seven Audi R8 LMS ultra in Toronto doubleheader

By Tarek Ramchani

The Pirelli World Challenge is crossing the border this weekend, up north to Canada. The series will share the weekend with the IndyCar Series in Toronto.

The Audi Sport customer racing squad will be represented by seven Audi R8 LMS ultra cars. Three cars will compete in the upper GT class and four in the GT-A class. In Toronto the Audi teams will try to secure additional victories and fight Cadillac Racing for both drivers' and manufacturers's championship standings

Double winner last time out at Road America, Mike Skeen will drive again the #2 Audi R8 LMS ultra from CRP Racing, he is second in the overall driver's standing behind Cadillac's Johnny O'Connel. GMG Racing will have two cars in the GT class, team owner James Sofronas driving the #14 Audi and will try to secure his first win this year in Pirelli World Challenge. His team-mate Andrew Palmer
will drive the #21 R8 LMS ultra and he is third in the points standing.

GMG Racing will have three cars in the GT-A class. Bret Curtis will be in the hands of the #32 Audi, Brent Holden will drive the #44 Audi R8 LMS ultra and Bill Ziegler will drive the #95 machine. The new comers to the Audi family from M1 Racing will field a single R8 LMS ultra for driver Walt Bowlin.

Two races are planned in the Toronto double header event. Race 1 is set for Saturday and the second race will be held on Sunday.

Pirelli World Challenge: Victory for Mike Skeen Audi R8 LMS ultra in Road America race 1

By Tarek Ramchani

A great race 1 for the Audi teams in Pirelli World Challenge at the beautiful Road America circuit. Mike Skeen scored a maiden victory with the Audi R8 LMS ultra from team CRP Racing.

Mike Skeen driving his all black HAWK backed #2 Audi R8 LMS ultra crossed the finish line victorious after a thrilling 23-lap race. The Audi driver was ahead of Robert Thorne driving a McLaren MP4-12C and Tim Bergmeister with a Porsche 997 GT3-R.

Andrew Palmer was the best ranked GMG Racing driver in fifth place with his #21 Audi R8 LMS ultra. Team owner and driver James Sofronas was eighth behind the wheels of #14 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS ultra.

Two other Audi drivers performed very well in Race 1, Bill Ziegler and Jeff Courtney. Bill Ziegler driving the #95 Audi R8 LMS ultra from GMG Racing was fourteenth overall and second within the GT-A class. Jeff Courtney with the JCR Motorsport #99 Audi R8 LMS ultra was fifteenth and third within the GT-A class.

Interesting to note the very positive debut of the sister Bentely brand in Pirelli World Challenge. Butch Leitzinger finished Race 1 in a fine sixth place with the Continental GT3 entered by Dyson Racing Team Bentley.

Race 1 results can be seen here.

Race 2 at Road America is set for today with Mike Skeen starting from pole position.
