Audi dominated this morning’s second DTM free practice session. A storming 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 for the A5 R17 cars. For qualifying, the Audi drivers had targeted pole position and the remaining top spots for the starting grid. Qualifying consisted of very close times and in the end Mike Rockenfeller with his #9 A5 DTM from Audi Sport Team Phoenix qualified in fourth. Rocky was the only Audi driver who made it to Q4 for the top four drivers. Earlier this morning Rocky had lead the second free practice session. In fifth place during qualifying was Italian Edoardo Mortara from Audi Sport Team Rosberg. Three other Audi drivers were able to enter the top 10. Mattias Ekström from Audi Sport Team Abt qualified in eighth. The second Phoenix A5 in hands of Miguel Molina was ninth. In tenth position was the rookie Frencheman Adrien Tambay.
Pole position went to BMW's Bruno Spengler followed by another M3 of Augusto Farfus. The race winner at Hockenheim, Gary Paffet with his AMG C Class ended in third. However Audi was the only brand placing five cars in the top ten. With the R17 cars showing a great pace in all the free practice and qualifying sessions, we are expecting a great race for the Audi drivers and great battles with the cars from BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
