Pirelli World Challenge: Strong second for Andrew Palmer Audi in Detroit race 1

By Tarek Ramchani

Detroit is hosting the fourth meeting of the 2014 Pirelli World Challenge (for GT/GTS teams). The Audi Sport customer racing squad represented by six Audi R8 LMS ultra cars performed well in today's Race 1.

Last time winner at Barber Motorsport Park, Andrew Palmer secured a great second place at the end of the 26-lap race. The driver of the GMG Racing run #21 Audi R8 LMS ultra finished right behind race winner Johnny O'Connel with the factory Cadillac CTS-V.R at the demanding Detroit temporary street course.

Mike Skeene driving the CRP Racing #2 Audi R8 LMS ultra was fourth. James Sofronas team owner and driver of the GMG Racing #14 Audi R8 LMS ultra ended in eighth place.

The other Audi drivers were outside the Top 10, all of them driving GMG Racing R8 LMS ultra cars. Bret Curtis finished in eleventh place overall and second within GT-A class driving the #32 Audi. Brent Holden ended in fourteenth place overall and fifth in GT-A with the #44 Audi. Bill Ziegler was fifteenth overall and sixth among the GT-A drivers behind the wheels of the #95 Audi.

Race 1 results can be seen here.

The Audi teams and drivers will hit the track again at Detroit tomorrow for Race 2.
