Pirelli World Challenge: Victory for GMG Racing and Andrew Palmer at Barber Motorsports Park

By Johan Laubscher

Barber Motorsports Park hosted the Pirelli World Challenge this weekend. It was the third meeting of the year and a total of seven Audis took part.

GMG Racing fielded four Audi R8 LMS ultra cars and JCR Motorsports and CRP Racing each fielded one Audi R8 LMS ultra. RS Werkes Racing entered one Audi TT RS in the GTS class.

Mike Skeen was the fastest Audi in qualifying and claimed third spot overall. Andrew Palmer took fifth on the grid for the first race, followed by James Sofronas in ninth, only three Audis within the overall top ten.

Race one saw Sofronas moving forward to ultimately finish fourth, ahead of Skeen in sixth.

Race two was the highlight of the weekend and finished with victory for Andrew Palmer in the #21 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS ultra. He took the lead on the last lap and recorded the first Audi PWC victory of 2014, in his rookie season.

The next round of the PWC with the GT/GT-A and GTS cars will be heading to Detroit, 30 May - 1 June.
