FIA WEC: Audi on top after first test session at Paul Ricard

By Johan Laubscher

The FIA World Endurance Championship is hosting The Prologue this week, the official two-day test at Paul Ricard. All three of the factory LMP1 teams are taking part: Audi, Porsche and Toyota. The first test session was held this morning and concluded well for the Audi squad.

Audi Sport Team Joest has entered two new 2014 Audi R18 e-tron quattro cars at the test session, the same two driver combinations that are entered for the full 2014 FIA WEC season.

The #1 Audi R18 e-tron quattro is driven by Tom Kristensen, Loïc Duval and Lucas di Grassi. The sister #2 Audi R18 e-tron quattro is driven by Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer.

The two days of testing got underway with three sessions on Friday (Morning + Afternoon + Night).

The morning session was held from 09:00-13:00 and concluded with the Audis setting the overall fastest and fifth fastest times. The #2 Audi set the fastest time with a 1:42.788. They were ahead of the two Porsche 919 Hybrid cars (#14 and #20) and the #7 Toyota. The #1 Audi was fifth and the #8 Toyota sixth. The six factory cars were split by 2.034 seconds.

The results from the first session can be seen HERE

Two more sessions will still be held today, followed by two more test sessions scheduled for the final day of testing tomorrow.
