The Italian GT Championship is in Austria this weekend, round two at the Red Bull Ring. Race one has already been held this morning, with a fine second place for Audi Sport Italia.
The official Audi Italia dealer team are entered with two cars. The #4 R8 LMS ultra of Dindo Capello and Andrea Sonvico, they qualified in seventh place for race 1. The sister #5 Audi is shared by Johan Kristoffersson and Alex Frassineti, they qualified in ninth.
Right from the start it was obvious that the two Audi cars would not be able to fight for race victory. The two R8 LMS ultra were chasing in the middle of the pack. Dindo Capello took over the #4 R8 LMS ultra from Andrea Sonvico during the mandatory pitstops. Capello was able to improve up to third with a very strong pace. In the last lap the #2 BMW Z4 GT3 of Roal Motorsport slowed and Capello inherited the second place. A fine result given how penalized the R8 LMS ultra now is in Italian GT. The sister #5 Audi of Kristoffersson and Frassineti had a harder race, crossing the finish line in fifth place. Race victory went to the #46 Ferrari 458 of Black Bull Swisse Racing.
Race 2 is next at the Red Bull Ring. Kristoffersson and Frassineti will start from fourth and their teammates Capello and Sonvico from seventh.
