Video: Audi S4 GTO debut win with Hans J Stuck

By Johan Laubscher

Many Audi fans know of and adore the 1989 Audi 90 IMSA GTO race cars. These cars only competed in 1989, however this was not the last we would see of the Audi 90 IMSA GTO legend.

In South Africa two Audi S4 (C4) race cars were build based on the Audi 90 IMSA GTO during 1992. The Audi S4 GTO as it was known used the same twenty valve engine as the 1989 IMSA car. Two of these new S4 GTO cars were built to replace the team’s two older Audi 200 Trans Am cars. The first car was ready at the end of 1992 and would debut at the penultimate round of the 1992 Wesbank Modifieds series at Killarney in Cape Town, South Africa. A special driver was sent to South Africa to drive the car on its debut. None other than German ace Hans-Joachim Stuck raced the car to a double win on the car’s debut.

Here is the highlights video from race one at Killarney in 1992. In the video you can watch Hans-Joachim Stuck taking the race win along with the other two older Audi 200 Trans Am cars also in the field. Enjoy:
