Pirelli World Challenge: North America's version of GT3 racing

Audi Reunion for Zugel, Lux, and Julian at Bathurst 12 Hour

This week sees the second stop on the DragonSpeed Classic Enduro Challenge world tour of GT3 endurance races, when the Bathurst 12 Hours reunites the driving squad which tasted American Le Mans Series success in 2011. Back then, Christian Zugel and DragonSpeed team principal Elton Julian helped Eric Lux to the LMPC class drivers title. Now the trio will take on the spectacular 4.0-mile Mount Panorama circuit, legendary home of Australia's Bathurst 1000 touring car race, in one of no less than seven Audi R8 LMS and LMS ultra GT3 entries in the 51-strong field.

Gallery: The only Audi R8 LMS ultra in North America

The Audi R8 LMS ultra has been a demanding force in international GT Racing during 2012. So far only one of these thorough bread machines have found a home in North America. The DragonSpeed team acquired the car earlier during the year and have been very busy testing. The team recently announced they will debut the car in 2013 during a string of endurance races. First on the team’s planned list is the Dubai 24 Hours and the Bathurst 12 Hours, followed by a European tour which includes the Nürburgring and Spa 24 Hours.

The DragonSpeed team’s latest test session was held at Roebling Road Raceway. Thanks to Stephan Bauer for these great photos from the test session.

Video: First Audi R8 LMS ultra in USA continues testing

The Dragon Speed team in North America were the first team from the country to acquire an Audi R8 LMS ultra. The car has not yet made its race debut but the team have been very busy testing the car. So far the car is confirmed for the 2013 Dubai 24 hours. Other than this one commitment it is unknown where this car will compete, or in which category in North America. The car looks absolutely stunning. Below is the team’s latest testing video, enjoy:

Video: The first American Audi R8 LMS ultra breaks cover

The American DragonSpeed Team with Elton Julian recently became the recepiants of the first Audi R8 LMS ultra in North America. Speculation soon started as to where the car would compete with many rumours circulating. A few weeks have passed and official word from the team has arrived. The team hasconducted a successful shakedown of the car at Palm Beach International Raceway. The car is still in its bare silver livery with DragonSpeed logos.

The team has confirmed its entry for the 2013 Dubai 24 Hours and have mentioned the possibility of the 2013 Bathurst 12 Hours and the Nürburgring 24 Hours as well. The team is looking into the possibility of the SCCA World Challenge and the ALMS in GTC.

American Audi fans are very excited as the number of American based Audi R8 race machinery is continuing to increase.
