Le Mans 24 Hours: René Rast could achieve a historical triple crown
By Tarek Ramchani
Audi Sport Team Joest welcomed a new face this year, René Rast. The German driver joined the team at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and will race at Le Mans 24 Hours this weekend.
René Rast is maybe a new comer to the upper LMP1 racing, but he has a lot of experience in GT racing. In 2014 he raced at Le Mans in the LMP2 class driving an Oreca 03 from Sébastien Loeb Racing. He finished the event in eighth place overall, fourth within the LMP2 class.
At Le Mans, the Audi driver could achieve a historical triple crown, winning all of the three major European 24-hour endurance races, Le Mans 24 Hours, the Spa 24 Hours and the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
He already won the Spa 24 Hours twice and the Nürburgring 24 Hours with Audi R8 LMS ultra cars.
René Rast will share the #9 Audi R18 e-tron quattro with Marco Bonanomi and Filipe Albuquerque.
