Audi Sport Italia took part today to the Italian GT Championship second race of the weekend at Vallelunga. The official Audi Italia dealer team managed to take a Top 5 overall.
As was the case in yesterday's race 1, Andrea Amici and Marco Mapelli were the best ranked Audi drivers. Behind the wheel of their #7 Audi R8 LMS, Amici and Mapello took a fifth place overall. The two drivers had a strong pace and challenged the #44 Porsche 997 GT3 R from Ebimotors narrowly missing position four.
Andrea Amici and Marco Mapelli performances were great given how untouchables were the Ferraris at Vallelunga. The cars from Maranello dominated today's race with a 1-2-3 for the 458 Italia GT3s.
The second Audi Sport Italia entry finished the 31-lap race in eighth place overall. Dindo Capello and Emanuele Zonzini battled in the middle of the pack with their #6 Audi R8 LMS ultra.
Race 2 results are here
Overall it was a though opening round for Audi Sport Italia at Vallelunga. The team had some of the best drivers in the field but right now the Ferrari 458s are simply too dominant in Italian GT Championship.
The next round of the series will be at the super fast Monza circuit, May 29th to 31st.
