24H Series: Unlucky race for Audi TT RS and Audi R8 teams at the 12H Italy-Mugello

By Johan Laubscher

The International Endurance Series (24H Series) hosted the 12H Italy-Mugello this weekend, round two of the season. Two Audi teams entered one car each in the SP2 class for this endurance race at Mugello in Italy.

This 12-hour event was split into two parts, the first four hours were run on Friday and the final eight hours on Saturday after the cars were parked overnight.

Regular 24H Series entrant, Red Camel Racing, entered its #159 Audi R8 driven by Robert Nearn, Henk Thijssen and Ivo Breukers. It is one of the two privately built Creventic Audi R8 V8 race cars, which are also known as “CR-8”. These Audis were built by Creventic and the first one debuted at the 2008 24 Hours of Dubai. Red Camel Racing later acquired one of the cars and has been competing with it for a number of years.

Red Camel Racing was joined on the grid by LMS Engineering. The German team entered one of its Audi TT RS cars that normally competes in the SP3T class of the VLN Endurance Series. The #96 Audi TT RS was driven by Chris Tiger, Ulrich Andree and Patrik Kaiser. This car was originally entered in the A3T class of the 24H Series, but it was moved up to the SP2 class following its pace in qualifying.

Qualifying saw LMS Engineering listed as taking pole position in the A3T class, setting the thirty-second fastest time overall. The car was run in the SP2 class during the race. Red Camel Racing was fourth in class, thirty-eighth overall.

Both Audi teams ran well during the opening four hours on Friday. LMS Engineering ended the first segment of the race third in class and Red Camel Racing was fourth, twenty-second and twenty-fifth overall respectively.

Eight more hours of racing got underway on Saturday and LMS Engineerig continued to run well and moved forward through the class. With less than three hours to go the LMS Engineering Audi TT RS moved into the SP2 class lead and everything looked good until tragedy struck for the German team at the ten-hour mark. A gearbox failure unfortunately put an end to LMS Engineering's race whilst the #96 Audi TT RS was leading the SP2 class.

Red Camel Racing ran into gearbox linkage and crankshaft sensor issues during Saturday and dropped back down the order. The team soldiered on and finished fifth and last among the SP2 class runners, fifty-fourth overall.

Round three of the 24H Series will be the 12H Zandvoort from 29-30 May.

Dubai 24 Hours: Red Camel Racing Audi R8 finished fourth in class

By Johan Laubscher

The tenth running of the Dubai 24 Hours was the opening event for the International Endurance Series (24H Series) this weekend. The massive entry list included one Audi team who fielded an Audi R8 V8 race car.

The Audi was entered by Red Camel Racing, a regular entrant in the 24H Series.

The #159 Red Camel - Jordans.nl entry was driven by Rik Breukers, Ivo Breukers, Tommy Lindroth and Tarek Elgammal.

Qualifying yielded a forty-eighth position on the overall grid, sixth within the SP2 class. The race itself concluded with a fourth position in class for the Red Camel Racing Audi R8, fifty-fifth overall.

Dubai 24 Hours: Red Camel Racing Audi R8 ready for the 10th edition race

By Tarek Ramchani

The 10th edition of the Dubai 24 Hours will be held next weekend at Dubai Autodrome, United Arab Emirates. The Middle Eastern endurance race quickly became a true classic and the first race of the international sportscar calendar each year.

The entry list of the 2015 race is stronger than ever with a great quality field mixing GT and Touring Cars. Unfortunately there is only a single Audi race car. The privately built Audi R8 (not Audi R8 LMS) from Dutch team Red Camel Racing will compete in the SP2 class. The team will be challenged by Ford Focus and Maserati Gran Turismo cars for class honors. All the cars in the race will use Hankook tires after years with Dunlop.

Action will start Thursday with three practice sessions - including a night one - and qualifying. The start of the race is set for Friday at 14:00 local time.

24H Series: Revised calendar for 24H SERIES powered by Hankook 2015‏

24H Series Press Release

As announced earlier this week, the calendar for the 2015 24H SERIES powered by Hankook, now with official FIA International Series’ status, has been revised. Following requests from various teams and drivers, new dates have been set for three rounds of the series. The third round of the season, the Hankook 12H ZANDVOORT, will now be run on 29 and 30 May, 2015. Starting the second half of the season, the inaugural Hankook 24H CIRCUIT PAUL RICARD has been postponed by one week to 10-12 July, 2015. For the sixth and final round of the 24H SERIES powered by Hankook, not only a new date has been set: a planned resurfacing of the Hungaroring meant that an alternative venue had to be found as well. Thus, the Automotodrom Brno in the Czech Republic will host the inaugural Hankook 12H EPILOG BRNO to conclude the 2015 season on 9 and 10 October, 2015.

“We already published a draft calendar for our 24H SERIES powered by Hankook in early September, so we were the first to come up with dates for our races,” says Gerrie Willems on behalf of CREVENTIC, organisers and promoters of the 24H SERIES powered by Hankook in co-operation with DNRT (Dutch National Racing Team). “However, as dates for other endurance races were published as well, some potential clashes came up and teams approached us with requests to look out for other possibilities. For us, service to teams and drivers has always been our main focus and we are probably a little bit more flexible in finding alternative dates for our events than other organisations. Therefore, we are glad that, once again in good co-operation with management of the various circuits, we have found some good dates that will allow teams and drivers to take part in as many races as possible. At Zandvoort, we keep the same weekend we already had this year. The Paul Ricard round was postponed by one week. As to Hungaroring, the circuit management informed us that they planned to carry out a resurfacing of the track, something that could only be done in autumn, so we had to look for a different venue, which we found in the beautiful Automotodrom Brno, a circuit with a long heritage in the Czech Republic. Moreover, the ‘Epilog’ event as an end-of-season endurance race at Brno has a tradition of many years, so we are glad that this prestigious title will now be used for our race.”

Reduced entry fee for the full 24H SERIES powered by Hankook

With the official International Series’ status granted by the FIA, championship points can now be awarded for all the rounds counting towards the 24H SERIES powered by Hankook. There will be separate classifications for drivers and teams as well as a special Ladies’ Cup. To encourage teams to register for the full series, CREVENTIC are offering a special discount. Teams can benefit from a reduced entry fee for the full season and pay ten percent less than when entering cars on a race-by-race basis for each round. This also applies to teams who want to register for the five rounds of the 2015 24H SERIES powered by Hankook that remain after the season opener, the Hankook 24H DUBAI. Regulations, class structures and the ‘balance of performance’ for the 2015 season remain largely unchanged compared to 2014. All relevant information can be found on the series’ website: www.24hseries.com.

Round 2 and 3 of the 24H SERIES powered by Hankook: Mugello and Zandvoort

While cars and equipment are already underway to the United Arab Emirates for the tenth anniversary edition of the Hankook 24H DUBAI (8-10 January, 2015), preparations are ongoing for the two twelve-hour races that had a successful premiere this year: the Hankook 12H ITALY-MUGELLO (13-14 March, 2015) and the Hankook 12H ZANDVOORT (29-30 May, 2015). “The inaugural editions of both races were a great success and both events were excellent additions to our calendar,” says Gerrie Willems. “At Mugello, teams appreciate the opportunity to have some competitive running relatively close to home before most of the European endurance racing gets underway. Zandvoort is a circuit most drivers love because of its challenging character and its great seaside location, so we really are looking forward to returning to these two venues in 2015!”

The revised calendar of the 2015 24H SERIES powered by Hankook at a glance:

8-9-10 January, 2015: Hankook 24H DUBAI
13-14 March, 2015: Hankook 12H ITALY-MUGELLO
29-30 May, 2015: Hankook 12H ZANDVOORT
10-11-12 July, 2015: Hankook 24H CIRCUIT PAUL RICARD
4-5-6 September, 2015: Hankook 24H BARCELONA
9-10 October, 2015: Hankook 12H EPILOG BRNO
