World RX: Braved Portugal across all areas - EKS Audi

EKS Press Release

Thunderstorm, a rollover and the first points of the new campaign – EKS went through a weekend with ups and downs at the first round of FIA World Rallycross Championship in Montalegre/Portugal. After challenging heavy rain during nearly the entire weekend, Mattias Ekström secured a place in the semi and ended up seventh. “At the end it’s just P7. In terms of lap times we could aim for more”, says Ekström.

In general the EKS team boss and driver was happy with the performance. “My car went well off the line, Anton’s not. Especially on Saturday it was not only racing for us, but also a bit of a test day. We have never been driven in such sloppy conditions before. It’s one of the charming factors of Rallycross that you never know what happens and we are leaving Portugal with a lot of new experiences.”

This is also true for Anton Marklund, who faced some challenges during his maiden outing in the Audi S1 EKS RX quattro. In his first ever heat in EKS colours he had a rollover, fought back to reach the semis without fortune and finished seventeenth. “This weekend wasn’t the best for me, but I’ve learned the car and I’m ready to win in both World RX and Audi Sport TT Cup in Hockenheim next weekend”, says Marklund.

The team won’t waste time now, clean up the place, where hundreds of fans witnessed the unique EKS atmosphere during the weekend and drive the two trucks onto the highway immediately. Round about 2,000 km from Montalegre to the Hockenheimring have to be done in a short while. In just four days the next challenge begins and EKS will be ready to rumble for the victory at round two of 2015 World RX.
