FIA WEC: Porsche leads first two free practice sessions ahead of Audi and Toyota in Brazil

The FIA World Endurance Championship is in Brazil for the eighth and final round of the 2014 season. Toyota and Audi will be facing off for the 2014 Manufacturers’ title. Toyota comes into the finale weekend with a total of 259 points, with 40 points in hand over Audi on 219.

The big news of the weekend was the retirement of Mr Le Mans, Tom Kristensen. Leading up to the event TK had announced that the 6 Hours of São Paulo would be his last race as a professional race driver.


The weekend’s proceedings got underway with the first two practice sessions on Friday.

Porsche dominated the first day of track action in Brazil. Their pair of Porsche 919 Hybrid cars went 1-2 in both sessions, both times with the #20 Porsche setting the fastest time ahead of their teammates in the #14 Porsche.

Third place during both sessions was occupied by the #1 Audi R18 e-tron quattro of Tom Kristensen, Lucas di Grassi and Loïc Duval.


The first session saw positions four with the #8 Toyota TS 040 Hybrid in fourth, ahead of the #2 Audi squad of Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer and Benoît Tréluyer in fifth and the #7 Toyota in sixth.

Audi #2 went one better during the second session and placed the Audis 3-4 behind the Porsche 1-2. The #2 Audi was fourth fastest ahead of the two Toyotas, #8 followed by #7.
