EuroV8 Series: Positive qualifying for Audi Sport Italia RS 5 quattro cars at Monza

By Tarek Ramchani

Monza is hosting this weekend the season opener of the newly formed EuroV8 Series. The Italian based touring car championship which replaced the defunct Superstars Series. Audi Sport Italia is on site fielding two Audi RS 5 quattro cars.

Back to back champion in 2012 with Kohan Kirstoffersson and 2013 with Gianni Morbidelli, the Audi RS 5 quattro is returing for the third straight year. Gianni Morbidelli left the series heading to the FIA World Touring Car Championship. Two new drivers will race the RS 5 quattro cars, Tomas Kostka and Davide Stancheris.

The two drivers performed well yesterday in the qualifying session. Tomas Kostka with his #01 Audi RS 5 quattro took a fine fourth place. His team-mate Davide Stancheris qualified in eleventh place with the #02 Audi RS 5 quattro. These are good results given how penalizing the very fast Monza track is for the AWD quattro cars. Last year the car strugled a lot at Monza but later recovred very well in the remaining events in the season.

Pole position went to Eddie Cheever driving a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. Second was Nicola Baldan with another Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. Third fastest was Francesco Sini driving a Chevrolet Camaro.

The two races are set for today. Both races will have a Live Streaming coverage.
