EuroV8 Series: Good haul of points for Audi Sport Italia in round 2 at Monza

Audi Sport Italia Press Release

•   Tomas Kostka seals EuroV8 debut weekend claiming third place in points
•   Davide Stancheris briefly runner-up before bad break struck

Monza, April 6 2014 – Taking into account the slick layout of Monza, 4WD cars were not supposed to rival this track old ruler--i.e. AMG Mercedes--let alone eclipse it. As the three-pointed star cars sweeped again the season opener, RS 5s were not able to clinch their first Top3 finish but they drivers put in a good effort of curtailing losses. Due to race two reversed grid, a bevy of raging V8s thronged through the first corner with Davide Stancheris having a big time courtesy of an awesome start from the front row. He managed to fend off multiple assaults to his P2 on the opening lap but sadly for the Bergamo-based driver this was meant to be a brief spell, as BHP-happy Chevys and AMG Mercedes soon moved past him staging a royal battle to claim race two win, a fray that as in race one saw Eddie Cheever III have the upper's hand. Stancheris toiled throughout the afternoon race with an engine that could not deploy its full range of power, definitely an hurdle too tall to climb at ultra-quick Monza, and wound up in P7.

Stancheris' team mate Tomas Kostka was therefore the lone driver poised to challenge the Chevy/Mercedes stranglehold on the Top3 standings, but he had to fight tooth and nail to keep track of race one runner-up Nicola Baldan. On Lap 8 the Czech finally nipped past the AMG Mercedes grabbing P4, the spot he had also claimed in the morning race. However, as Kostka looked set to clinch his first Top3 finish he gave up on his chase of Mimmo Schiattarella's Chevy Lumina when a sharp vibration developed in his car. On the bright side, Kostka's fourth place propelled him from P4 in the points standings to P3, four stones removed from the Chevy drivers, who are sitting side by side in P2 with 34 points apiece. Not a bad outcome with the next EuroV8 Series meeting scheduled at 4WD-friendly Vallelunga...
