BPCC: Engen’s Xtreme Team charged up for first round

Engen Motorsport Press Release

The Engen Xtreme Race Team tackles the first round of the 2014 season at Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday, 1 March. Two Engen Audi S4 quattros will again take the challenge to their competitors – and have to be considered the favourites at this year’s opening event.

Leading the team charge will be multiple national champion, Michael Stephen (A1). Stephen has won the Class A category three years in a row and enters the 2014 season as the defending champion. Combining both his now pedigreed racing talent and technical engineering skill, Stephen finds himself in the perfect position to capitalise from the start in his quest for his 4th Championship. His past performances on the circuit will make him the focus of every driver on the grid.

“The first round of the season is very important to a driver, as it sets the tone for the rest of the season,” says Stephen. “It is important to keep things in context though. It is only the first round of a very long year, so it has to be approached strategically.”

The Terry Moss Racing workshop in Port Elizabeth has been hard at work preparing the two Engen Xtreme Audi S4 quattros as they gear up for the eight round season ahead. Under the guidance of Terry Moss himself, an old war horse in the sport and with the technical expertise of Stephen, the team are confident they have put a package together that will keep them at the sharp end of the race action.

The 2014 season will see a new racer move into the Bridgestone Production Car series and pilot the second Audi next to Stephen. Simon Moss steps up to the top end challenge, bringing with him championship experience in national karting, national single-seater racing and the Engen Volkswagen Cup series.

“The Bridgestone Production Car championship is going to be a big challenge,” says Moss. “Good drivers, fast cars and very close racing is going to make for a steep learning curve. I’m ready for the tough season ahead, but having a teammate like Michael is going to make that a great deal easier.”

Moss is upbeat about his first event in the national formula after promising results in the car during the off-season regional racing.

With the performance-proven Engen Xtreme Audi S4s and two talented drivers at the wheel, the Xtreme team are looking forward to yet another strong showing on the national motorsport scene and will be focussed on a good start come the 1st day in March.
