FIA WEC: Both Audis sandwiched in the third and final Fuji practice session

By Johan Laubscher

Saturday’s proceedings at Fuji kicked off bright and early with the third free practice session. The Audi squad topped both sessions on Friday and they continued their good pace this morning.

The third and final practice session started at 09:30 local time. It was a case of very close times at the top of the time sheets. Toyota set the fastest time during the third session. It was the #7 Toyota of Kazuki Nakajima, Alexander Wurz and Nicolas Lapierre which set the fastest time of 1:27.117. The pair of Audis placed second and third, sandwiched by the #7 Toyota ahead of the fourth placed #8 Toyota.

The #1 Audi of André Lotterer, Benoit Tréluyer and Marcel Fassler finished in second place, a mere 0.146 seconds behind the leading Toyota. The #2 Audi of Allan McNish, Loic Duval and Tom Kristensen placed third, 0.181 seconds back from the leader. The Audi duo were followed by Toyota #8, with all four of the factory cars being split by only 0.419 seconds. The final LMP1 entrant was fifth, the privateer #12 Lola B12/60 Coupé - Toyota from Rebellion Racing.

Qualifying will be taking place later today, scheduled to begin at 13:55 local time. We wish the best of luck to Audi Sport Team Joest and their drivers.
