Le Mans: Focus on Audi R18 e-tron quattro lead engineers

By Tarek Ramchani

To win Le Mans you need a fast and reliable car and quick drivers, but you also need a solid pit crew behind it all. Audi Sport Team Joest is fielding three Audi R18 e-tron quattro cars this year. Each Audi has its own lead engineer, the man (or woman), who supervises the entire crew and race strategy for that specific car.

For the 2013 race there are three leading engineers, all of them from Great Britain. Leena Gade is back with the reigning champions in the #1 Audi (Lotter/Tréluyer/Fassler). Kyle Wilson-Clarke is taking charge of the #2 Audi (Duval/McNish/Kristensen). "H" Howden Haynes is responsible for the #3 Audi (Gené/di Grasi/Jarvis).

Below is a video from Audi tv, showing you how the work is done, and how important the role of a race lead engineer at Le Mans truly is.
