ADAC GT Masters: Victory for Prosperica C.Abt Racing Audi in Sachsenring race 1

By Tarek Ramchani

After a great qualifying session at the Sachsenring yesterday, the Audi squad again did great in ADAC GT Masters Race 1 today. Victory for Prosperia C.Abt Racing with the #27 Audi R8 LMS ultra.

Christoper Mies and René Rast shared the victorious Audi car, they also started from pole position. The two youngsters crossed the finish line with 7.862s ahead of the second placed Porsche 911 GT3 R of Nicolas Armindo and Christian Engelhart. Christopher Mies and René Rast have now scored their second race win of the season, after their victory in race 1 at Oschersleben. Even better, as Mies and Rast are now leading the overall championship standings with 60 points.

All three Audi teams were represented within the top 10. The #100 Audi of MS Racing, in the hands of Daniel Dobitsch and Aditya Patel, finished in sixth place. Their teammates, Sebastian Asch and Florian Stoll, finished right behind them in seventh place, with their #1 R8 LMS ultra. THE BOSS YACO RACING #16 Audi was tenth with drivers Philip Geipel and Christian Mamerow.

The remaining two Audis were outside of the top 10, both from Prosperia C.Abt Racing. The #28 R8 LMS ultra, of Christer Jöns and Markus Winkelhock, was eleventh. The #26 Audi of Rahel Frey and Christopher Haase finished in fourteenth place. The race 1 results can been seen here.

Overall it was a very good first race for Audi. The slight Balance of Performance adjustments, made by the series organizers, have clearly brought the Audi R8 LMS ultra back as a front running machine. The R16 battled fairly against a great quality field, one of the finest in Europe. We hope to see the same performances in Race 2 tomorrow.
