During 2012 photos emerged of a modified ex-DTM ABT-Audi TT-R. The car was driven by Vláďa Vitver in the FIA Hillclimb Championship and performed very well. The modifications made to the car were the first of its kind on one of these older Audi DTM cars, and it was certainly very interesting.

Audi Super Touring action in the Hills of Europe

By Johan Laubscher

There are many categories and formulas in the world of motorsport. Many of these formulas have come and gone, but sometimes a formula becomes so popular that even years after its demise people still talk about it fondly. One such formula took over the world during the 1990’s. It was raced across almost all of the continents in the world. It was the FIA Class II formula, or more commonly known as, Super Touring. It provided spectacular racing as the sedans from all the major manufactures battled it out on track in the win on Sunday, sell on Monday grand prix.

Audi was one of the front runners in the formula and with quattro four wheel drive they dominated for many seasons with the Audi A4 quattro STW. The car was so good that it eventually lead to the abolishment of four wheel drive within the rules, to negate the “unfair advantage.” Now in current times the Super Touring formula has been gone for just over a decade, but many of the cars still compete. A popular endeavour for these cars, especially the Audi with quattro, is Hillclimb racing. The Audi is a particular favourite among drivers in European Hillclimbing. We have included a video below which demonstrates why. The videos shows the excitement from these events as Santi Abad pushes his Audi A4 STW to the limits in the Galician Hillclimb Championship. The video is well worth the watch for the action and that unmistakable engine note of the Super Touring A4.

FOR SALE: Monstrous Audi A4 Hillclimb racer

By Johan Laubscher

A very interesting Audi race car is for sale. The car is a mixed combination of sorts, an Audi Sport developed A4 B7 STCC/S2000 chassis coupled with an Audi RS4 transmission (from Audi Sport Italia) which is mated to a V6 twin turbo pushing out over 500HP. The end result of this combination is spectacular. The car has been campaigned by Heinz Göllner in the Romanian Hillcimb Championship where it has achieved much success. Along with the visual impact the car also produces a tremendous sound, which echoes beautifully in the hillclimb stages. It is a very special machine and an excellent purchase for prospective hillclimb competitors.

Interested parties can view the listing of the car at AutoRennsport.ch via the link HERE.

ABT Audi TT-R destroyed during testing

By Johan Laubscher

The ABT-Audi TT-R of Vláďa Vitver has become well known amongst Audi motorsport fans for its modified styling. The SVC Náchod Motorsport team purchased the ex-DTM Audi and proceeded to modify the car both mechanically and visually. The car now displays the appearance of a Mk2 Audi TT. Vláďa Vitver has been competing with the car in various European Hillclimb series and events, including the FIA Hillclimb Championship.

The team have been preparing for one of the biggest German Hillcimb events, the Mickhausen Hillclimb. However tragedy struck during testing for the event. Vitver was testing at a former Airport at Hradec Králové. A high speed crash occurred which has damaged the car tremendously. We are happy to report that the news from the incident indicate that Vláďa Vitver is unharmed, and that is most important.

The driver is safe, and in this sport that is the most important fact of all. The fate of the Audi TT-R is unknown. If we will see this car racing again is yet to be confirmed. This the second major crash for one of the older ABT-Audi TT-R race cars this year. Doug Gore of Jamaica suffered a big crash at Dover a few months ago which damaged the chassis of his TT-R.

We wish Vláďa Vitver all the best as he recovers from the crash. Hopefully he will be on track racing again very soon.
