Gallery: Best of Rolex Series 2012, APR Motorsport Audi R8 GRAND-AM

Tarek Ramchani

The brand new Audi R8 GRAND-AM debuted in the Rolex Series at the 24 Hours of Daytona this year . The car is way different from the original R16 FIA GT3 specification, in order to meet the Grand-Am rules. Three Audi teams acquired the car, APR Motorsport, Oryx Racing and later Limitless Racing. From these three teams it was only APR Motorsport who competed in the full Rolex Series season. In many races APR had great pace but bad luck always hit the team. The bad luck persisted until the season finale at Lime Rock Park, where the Alabama based team was able to achieve a sensational second place in the demanding GT class. It was a great end for a mixed season.

Grand-Am Road Racing is preparing for the 2013 season. A two day test was run at the famous Daytona International Speedway, home of the Rolex 24. Audi was there with a factory backed R8 GRAND-AM under the Audi of America banner, and they did really well.

Audi R8 GRAND-AM first race victory

By Johan Laubscher

2012 Daytona 24 Hours
The new Audi R8 GRAND-AM debuted during 2012, and recently took its first race win almost unnoticed. The car is a version of the Audi R8 LMS which has been build according to the Grand-Am GT rules. Four of these cars were built for 2012 with the aim of being run by customer teams in Grand-Am. The debut came at Daytona as APR Motorsport and Oryx Racing entered their Audi R8 GRAND-Am race cars for the first time. Since then Limitless Racing has also joined the other two teams. The fourth car made one race appearance with APR at the Watkins Glen six hour event.

Limitless Racing at IMG Pocono
The car underwent much development this year as APR
soldiered on with it and ultimately scored the car’s highest Grand-AM result when the team finished second in the final round at Lime Rock.

The car has shown much potential and will be a challenger in 2013, however amongst all of the big Grand-Am news it has gone almost unnoticed that the Audi R8 GRAND-AM achieved its first ever race victory during September. The Limitless Racing Audi R8 competed at one Grand-Am event during the year, at NJMP. Since then Dr Jason Lee (Owner/driver) has competed at various other events which includes SCCA (STO class) and IMG Racing events.

Limitless Racing at IMG Pocono
During the weekend of 8 September Dr Lee was competing in the IMG Twilight race at Pocono and took the Audi R8 GRAND-AM’s first race win. He won both the qualifying and sprint races that evening. It may indeed only have been a club event, but a win is a win. It is also great to see the Limitless Racing machine competing at many events in America. We hope that this victory will be emulated by the cars in Grand-Am next year as the Audi R8 will surely be a strong contender in 2013.

Video: 360° view Audi R8 LMS ultra vs Audi R8 GRAND-AM

By Johan Laubscher

The R16 codename was given to the homologation of the Audi race cars based on the Audi R8 road car. The first R16 was the Audi R8 LMS which debuted in 2009. For 2012 Audi launched the second and third versions of this homolgation, the Audi R8 LMS ultra (GT3 specification) and the Audi R8 GRAND-AM (Grand-AM GT class specification). Here are two short videos showing official renders of both 2012 cars as they turn through 360°.

Dion von Moltke Interview - Driver of the APR Audi R8 GRAND-AM

APR

By Johan Laubscher

It is always special for motorsport fans to support drivers from their own country in international motorsport. Even more so when one of those drivers is part of one of your favourite teams and manufactures. For South African Audi and general motorsport fans alike, Dion von Moltke is proudly flying the South African flag on the international scene. It was a very proud sight when the first images of the APR Audi R8 GRAND-AM livery emerged with the car wearing the colours of South African Airways on the rear wing.

For the First Time, an Audi R8 Will Race in Canada As Grand-Am Visits Montreal

August 16, 2012 (Opelika, Ala.) -The Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series annual visit to Montreal will finally give Canadian race fans their first chance to see and hear the Audi R8 Grand-Am. It will also give APR Motorsport’s Dr. Jim Norman and Dion von Moltke a chance to finish what they started last week in Watkins Glen.

This weekend’s Montreal 200 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is the tenth of twelve rounds in the 2012 Rolex Series, and sees the APR Motorsport team enter the weekend with lots of momentum from last weekend’s Continental Tire 200 at Watkins Glen International Speedway. With less than 30 minutes remaining at Watkins Glen, the no. 51 APR Audi R8 Grand-Am was in sixth position – with von Moltke at the wheel after a strong opening stint by Norman – but was sidelined with a mechanical failure.

Site of the Canadian Grand Prix since 1978, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a favorite of most drivers. Featuring several long straightaways, low-speed and technical corners, and surrounded by barriers – including the world-famous Wall of Champions – it will present a challenge for both von Moltke and Norman, as well as the engineering staff of APR Motorsport.

Von Moltke, who previously raced at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in a Daytona Prototype, is looking forward to racing the no. 51 APR Audi R8 Grand-Am in front of the Canadian fans.

“Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal is one of my favorite tracks and it is near the top of the list for almost every driver,” said von Moltke. “Montreal is a very different track than any other track we race on and presents a very difficult challenge to get a good car all the way around the lap. The combination of long, high-speed straightaways, high load on the brakes and quick chicanes make it important to find the right compromise. I know we have some of the best engineers in the paddock and they will give Jim and me a great car for the race. Every race we are getting closer to the leaders and we are working hard to continue that positive streak and keep our development path of our no. 51 APR Audi R8 Grand-Am in the right direction.”

One week after his strongest run yet in the no. 51 APR Audi R8 Grand-Am, Norman is excited to step back into the car at Montreal.

“Montreal is one of my favorite tracks,” said Norman. “The progress that we’ve made with the APR Audi R8 Grand-Am is now becoming apparent and I expect us to have a great run this weekend. The work the APR team of engineers and mechanics have put into the car all year has made the car more competitive and fun to drive. The rest of the GT field is going to have their hands full of a big black and red Audi this weekend!”

Canadian fans will get their first glimpse of the no. 51 APR Audi R8 Grand-Am during two Thursday practice sessions. Qualifying for the Rolex Series GT class will be on Friday at 4:20 PM ET. The Montreal 200 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is this Saturday, August 18 and will be shown at 7:00 PM ET on SPEED Channel.

APR Motorsport Audi R8 GRAND-AM at Indy

APR

By Tarek Ramchani

APR Motorsport entered the inaugural Brickyard Grand Prix at the world famous Indianapolis Motorsport Speedway last weekend, the first ever sports car race at Indy. Round 9 of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series and also round three of the North American Endurance Championship, after the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the 6 Hours of the Glen. It was a very rainy and hard three hour event, with a lot of contact on track. The #51 machine shared by Dion von Moltke and Dr. Jim Norman finished 18th in the demanding GT class. The car has shown again a very good pace in hand of Dion von Moltke, but again bad luck hit the APR team when they made contact with an RX8 Mazda in the infield. Here is a brilliant video made in house by the APR media guys.

APR Motorsport Looks Forward to the Long Straightaways of Road America

APR

APR Motorsport Press Release

June 20, 2012 (Opelika, Ala.) – Road America is one of the most famous circuits in North America, and for good reason. At over 4 miles in length, it features several long straightaways linked by extremely fast and challenging corners. Its ‘Kink’ is flat out in most cars and scary in all of them – but it’s a playground that the drivers of APR Motorsport are really looking forward to.

After a challenging Mid-Ohio weekend, where the team’s no. 51 APR Audi R8 Grand-Am was caught a lap down when a yellow flag came out, drivers Dr. Jim Norman and Dion von Moltke are looking to repeat their form from Belle Isle, where the car qualified 4th and led it’s first laps in Grand-Am.

“Racing at Road America brings me a lot of great racing memories,” said von Moltke. “I drove here often in the Skip Barber Racing School series where I learned the fundamentals of driving race cars. I am looking forward to returning back to a track with so much history in our APR Audi R8 with support from Parathyroid.com, South African Airways, and PR Newswire. Top speed is one of the key areas to a quick lap around Road America so I am hoping our Audi V10 engine can show it’s might at Road America!”

Also returning will be the no. 41 APR Audi S4, driven by Hector Guerrero and Alex Popow. The duo was scheduled to make their debut at Mid-Ohio before the car was withdrawn after a crash in practice when Guerrero hit oil entering the Keyhole.

Fans of APR Motorsport can speak with the team throughout both races on the APR Motorsport Live Blog, at www.goapr.com. The CTSCC race will be held on Friday, June 22 at 6:15 PM ET, with Saturday’s Rolex Series race starting at 12:00 pm ET.

The Rolex 250 Driven by VisitFlorida.com will be shown live on SPEED Channel on Saturday, June 23 at 12:00 PM ET. The CTSCC race from Road America will be shown on Saturday, July 8, at 12:00 PM ET on SPEED Channel.

A Second Audi R8 for APR Motorsport at the Sahlen’s Six Hours at the Glen

APR

APR Motorsport Press Release

Ian Baas will also join Dr. Jim Norman and Dion von Moltke in team’s no. 51 Audi R8

June 21, 2012 (Opelika, Ala.) – Bolstering it’s entry for the upcoming Sahlen’s Six Hours at the Glen, APR Motorsport has announced that the team will field a second Audi R8 GRAND-AM for the annual six-hour classic.

The no. 52 APR Audi R8 GRAND-AM will join the team’s stable, with drivers Marc Basseng and Frank Stippler piloting the car. Stippler, from Bad Munstereifel, Germany, drove the Audi Sport Test Car – dubbed the ‘Captain America’ car – during the Roar Before the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway. Stippler has been a Factory Development Driver for the Audi R8 LMS since 2008.

“For me, this will be a weekend full of premieres,” said Stippler. “For the first time, I will be a part of APR Motorsport. For the first time, I will race the Audi R8 GRAND-AM. And, I will get my first taste of Watkins Glen. As I am a traditionalist, I love old-style tracks. I am excited to get to know this circuit which even used to be an F1 venue in the past. There are drivers who use a simulator to adapt to new tracks. I prefer to arrive a bit sooner, walk over the track and learn everything by heart. After having been involved in the development process of the R8 GRAND-AM, it is great to race it now. GRAND-AM is pretty new to me as well. I have tackled the 2008 Rolex 24 at Daytona, but apart from that race, I don’t know the series. I think we can expect a high class starting grid and an exciting race.”

Basseng, from Neusalza, Germany, has spent the last three seasons competing in the competitive GT1 World Championship, in which he scored three wins in 2011 driving a Lamborghini. Last season, behind the wheel of an Audi R8 LMS, he drove to victory in the 12 Hours of Bathurst and to a class win in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring. Basseng has one win in the 2007 Rolex 24 at Daytona in the GT class.

“I am eagerly anticipating my return to GRAND-AM with APR Motorsport,” said Basseng. “GRAND-AM is a first-class racing series with attractive events, fascinating cars and many well-known drivers. I know the Audi R8 LMS very well, not least because we have won the Nurburgring 24 Hours with it recently. But it will be the first time that I tackle an event in the Audi R8 GRAND-AM . My teammate Frank Stippler has done the development and testing with the car. I harbor great memories of Watkins Glen. I have raced there in GRAND-AM back in 2008. It is a track steeped in tradition. The circuit is embedded perfectly into the surroundings. In the very first part, there is a fast right-left-right corner that is really exciting. All in all, it is a very demanding track. I am sure we will enjoy an entertaining weekend.”

In addition, former Rolex 24 at Daytona winner Ian Baas will join Dr. Jim Norman and Dion von Moltke in the team’s no. 51 APR Audi R8. Baas drove the same car at this year’s Rolex 24 at Daytona, joining Norman, von Moltke, and five-time winner of the 24 Hours of LeMans, Emmanuelle Pirro.

The event will also mark the first time that the team campaigns two cars in the Rolex Series’ GT class. The team has campaigned a multi-car effort in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series since 2007, and currently races five cars in the series.

“While we have been making steady progress with our Audi, the chance to have a second car with Marc and Frank driving was something we didn’t want to pass up,” said Jeff Mishtawy, Director of Competition for APR Motorsport. “In addition to being proven, fast drivers, Marc and Frank have a deep understanding of the R8 and will help us to elevate the program. Working with Emmanuelle at Daytona was great as he brought a lot of experience to our new program, and we are looking forward to learning from Marc and Frank as well.”

For APR Motorsport owner Stephen Hooks, campaigning two cars in the Rolex Series GT class represents another milestone for his team, which started in GRAND-AM with a three-car effort in the CTSCC in 2008.

“It’s a great feeling to be running two cars with involvement from Audi Sport and with two of their factory drivers at Watkins Glen next weekend,” said Hooks. “We’ve enjoyed our relationship with Audi as their official launch partner for the GRAND-AM program. With the second round of the North American Endurance Championship, all the partners decided it would be a great time to apply the lessons we’ve learned and bring all the weapons to the table and see what kind of result we can get.”

The Sahlen’s Six Hours at the Glen will be on Sunday, July 1 at 11:00 AM ET. The race will be broadcast in its entirely on SPEED Channel.

Riding Momentum from Belle Isle, APR Motorsport Looks Ahead to Mid-Ohio

APR

APR Motorsport Press Release

June 7, 2012 (Opelika, Ala.) – The APR Motorsport team reached a milestone in last weekend’s Chevrolet Grand-Am Detroit 200, when Dion von Moltke led the first laps for the Audi R8 Grand-Am in Rolex Series competition. The day before, when von Moltke recorded the team’s best qualifying effort of 4th, his teammate Dr. Jim Norman topped the practice charts for the first time in the Audi.

Although the car would ultimately finish eleventh in the race after von Moltke slid into the tire wall during a brief rain shower, the team was enthused by its breakthrough performance and now looks forward to the different challenge of the permanent circuit at Mid-Ohio.

“Our APR Audi R8 Grand-Am has been really improving, thanks to the support of Parathyroid.com, PR Newswire, and South African Airways, and I hope that trend will continue this weekend,” said von Moltke. “Mid-Ohio is about as opposite as possible from Belle Isle. There are a lot of elevation changes and the track is relatively smooth, so it will challenge the engineers as well as the drivers this weekend to adapt with only a few days’ break. There is always a lot of really tight battling around Mid-Ohio so I cannot wait to get back to racing this weekend.”

APR Motorsport’s Audi R8 Leads First Grand-Am Laps in Detroit

APR

APR Motorsport Press Release

Team Recovers From Contact with Wall to Narrowly Miss First Top-10

June 4, 2012 (Detroit, Mich.) – A rollercoaster day capped a up-and-down weekend for the APR Motorsport team during the fifth round of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series. The two-hour contest on the street circuit on Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan would mark a historic first for APR Motorsport and Audi Sport in Grand-Am competition.

After running in fifth position in the early stages of the race in the no. 51 APR Audi R8 Grand-Am, Dion von Moltke inherited the lead when he stayed out while the GT cars ahead of him chose to pit under a full course caution period. When the race went green, von Moltke led the first laps for the Audi R8 in a North American professional racing series.

While leading, a brief rain shower fell on the south side of the Belle Isle circuit. Von Moltke arrived into turn one and the Audi R8 Grand-Am swapped ends, sending him sliding into the tire wall outside of turn one. While the car sustained no major damage, von Moltke needed assistance pulling the Audi out of the tire wall, and the car would lose two laps as a result. Once back underway, the APR Motorsport team gave the car a full service and Dr. Jim Norman replaced von Moltke at the wheel.

Norman would have a trouble-free stint at the wheel, putting the Audi in a position to take advantage of the wave-by twice under caution, putting the Audi back on the lead lap. When an additional caution period fell with minutes remaining in the race, the team elected to put von Moltke back in the car and mount a new set of fresh Continental tires. Armed with the new rubber, von Moltke made up several spots in the closing laps, finishing in eleventh position. Von Moltke also set the fastest lap of the race on his final lap, taking the checkered lap while running a 1:29.079.

“First of all, I’m really sorry for the guys that I made a mistake and cost us a great finish,” said von Moltke. “The car was hooked up and was running really well, I just got caught out going into turn one with that brief shower that made it much slicker than I anticipated. It’s really unfortunate because I know the team has worked hard to improve the car and the guys worked hard in the rain and wind all weekend to prepare the car so well. It was a great feeling to lead our first laps with the Audi R8 Grand-Am. This is disappointing, but we’ll move on and be ready for Mid-Ohio next weekend.”

Norman, who topped Friday’s second practice session, was upbeat about the team’s performance following the race.

“Even though we didn’t have a great result, we had a really positive race in Belle Isle,” said Norman. “I’m really happy with how the APR Motorsport team performed this weekend. They were excellent, and chipped away at things all weekend. The car was great in the race, and we had a great strategy. We made some improvements to the car, especially under braking, that really helped the car a lot this weekend. We still had a strong run and just missed our first top-ten, and I really couldn’t be happier with how everybody worked together this weekend.”

Next weekend, APR Motorsport’s Rolex Series and Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge teams will be in action at the EMCO Gears Classic at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. The Rolex Series race will be shown live on SPEED Channel on Saturday, June 9th, at 4:30 PM ET on SPEED Channel. The CTSCC race will be shown on Sunday, June 17th at 12:00 PM ET on SPEED.

Grand-Am: APR Will Introduce Audi’s 5.2-liter V10 to the Motor City

APR

APR Motorsport Press Release

The howl from the Audi R8 Grand-Am will be heard at the Chevrolet Grand-Am Detroit 200

(Opelika, Ala.) – Standing out from the crowd of GT cars in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series’ Chevrolet Grand-Am Detroit 200 will be the distinctive no. 51 APR Audi R8 Grand-Am. The eyes – and ears – won’t confuse the Audi, competing in its first season of Grand-Am competition with drivers Dion von Moltke and Dr. Jim Norman with anything else.

As the only team racing the Audi R8 in the entire 2012 Rolex Sports Car Series, APR Motorsport – working closely with Audi Sport Customer Racing – has been tasked with most of the development work on the new car. This weekend’s Chevrolet Grand-Am Detroit 200 represents a new challenge for the program, as the race on Detroit’s Belle Isle will be the first for the car on a temporary street circuit.

Von Moltke, who has become acquainted with the Belle Isle circuit with on-board videos from previous Belle Isle races, appreciates the unique challenge of racing on a street circuit.

“Street courses are much more mentally taxing than a purpose-built road course,” said von Moltke. “There is absolutely no room for error and you have to be on your game 100% of the time – completely focused on the corner in front of you and nothing else. So in preparation I have been working on mental toughness during workouts and training drills that I have learnt from the Performance Prime and Formula Fitness programs. I have watched all of the races at Belle Isle from 2008 – putting every inch of my study skills to the test. My focus has been on the technical aspects of the track – the corners, the surfaces, the bumps and kerbs, the places to attack and defend, and how the track changes throughout a race. We continue to develop our APR Audi R8 Grand-am with each race and are extremely hungry for a good result!”

Norman, who will also be making his first appearance at the Belle Isle circuit, is anxious to race on the circuit in the no. 51 APR Audi R8 Grand-Am.

“Competing on a street circuit is a new challenge, but one that I am really looking forward to,” said Norman. “The penalty for making mistakes is extremely high, and when you add in the faster Daytona Prototype cars, it will make for a very exciting race. I can’t wait to get back into our Audi, I know the guys at APR Motorsport and Audi Sport Customer Racing have worked hard to improve the car.”

Fans of APR Motorsport can speak with team owner Stephen Hooks during the Chevrolet Grand-Am Detroit 200 on its Live Blog, which can be accessed at www.goapr.com. Fans can ask questions throughout the race to get a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes.

The two-hour Chevrolet Grand-Am Detroit 200, the fifth round of the 2012 Rolex Sports Car Series, will go green on Saturday, June 2nd at 5:00 PM ET. The race will be broadcast live on SPEED Channel.

Grand-Am: APR Motorsport is Skipping the Jersey Shore and Aiming for Victory Lane at Sunny NJMP

APR

APR Motorsport Press Release

May 9, 2012 (Opelika, Ala.) – It’s an upbeat APR Motorsport team that is traveling to Millville, New Jersey and the New Jersey Motorsports Park for this weekend’s Global Barter 250 for the Rolex Series and B+ Heroes 200 for the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. For starters, the weather promises to be almost perfect, leaving the memories of a rainy weekend in Miami behind, and second, the team’s drivers are eager to tackle NJMP’s Thunderbolt circuit.

With Dr. Jim Norman and Dion von Moltke at the helm, the no. 51 APR Audi R8 Grand-Am has shown vastly improved form at the last two races at Barber Motorsports Park and Homestead-Miami Speedway. The torrential weather conditions meant the car would finish well down the order as the team diagnosed a problem with the car’s computer, but the car had shown tremendous speed during von Moltke’s opening stint.

As part of NJMP’s partnership with the Susan G. Komen foundation, fans can participate in an online auction for a Pit Crew Experience with several Rolex Series teams, including APR Motorsport. To bid on your chance to see the Global Barter 250 from the pits of the no. 51 APR Audi R8 Grand-Am, visit www.komencsnj.org/njmp.

Fans of APR Motorsports can speak with team owner Stephen Hooks during the CTSCC and Rolex Series races on its Live Blog, which can be accessed at www.goapr.com. Fans can ask questions and get a glimpse into what the team goes through during each race.

The Global Barter 250, the fourth round of the 2012 Rolex Sports Car Series, will go green on Sunday, May 12 at 1:00 PM ET and will be shown live on SPEED Channel. The B+ Heroes 200 presented by BCKSTGR, the fourth round of the 2012 CTSCC, will be run on Saturday, May 11 at 3:15 PM ET. The broadcast will be shown on Saturday, May 26 at 2:00 PM ET on SPEED.

Oryx Racing Forced To Miss “Grand Prix of Miami” At Homestead

Oryx Racing Press Release

Oryx Racing owner Humaid Al Masaood (UAE) has reluctantly withdrawn his entry for the third round of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series.

Al Masaood must now unexpectedly remain in the United Arab Emirates due to unforeseen business commitments during the week of the “Grand Prix of Miami” at the Homestead Miami Speedway (US State of Florida) on April 29.

Al Masaood, who is driving the Audi R8 GRAND-AM along with Steven Kane (GB) in the North American series for the first time, believes it would be of no benefit, at least on this occasion, to retain an entry and run with a “substitute” driver.

Oryx Racing will now actively use the coming weeks to test and further evaluate the R8 Grand-Am with Kane at the helm.

Tom Maplethorpe (GB), Team Manager:
“Humaid is bitterly disappointed about being unable to race at Homestead next weekend but understandably his business must come first. We believe that there would be no point in going to Homestead with another driver alongside Steven [Kane] for a one-off race – it wouldn’t be fair to that person and we don’t see that it would be of any benefit to the team. We’re planning a number of tests so as to make progress with the development of the Audi R8 Grand-Am.”

Oryx Racing
Oryx Racing is owned by UAE National Humaid Al Masaood and has its headquarters in Abu Dhabi (UAE) with its new for 2012 Grand-Am project based out of Winchester (US State of Virginia). The team’s development has been meteoric since its formation at the end of 2010. Oryx finished second (SP3) on its race début in the 2011 Dubai 24 Hours before contesting the opening two races in the European-based FIA Speed EuroSeries. In 2011, Oryx Dyson Racing finished fourth in the American Le Mans Series’ LMP1 Team Championship – Masaood & Kane fifth in the Drivers’ standings – despite only contesting the final seven races. In 2012, Oryx Racing competes in the GT category of the North America-based 13-race GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series.

Audi R8 GRAND-AM
V10 5.2-litre engine, 4 valves per cylinder, petrol direct injection, power 480hp, over 500Nm, emission control by two racing catalytic converters, rear-wheel-drive, sequential pneumatic activated 6-speed sport gearbox with shift-paddles, Audi Space Frame (ASF) made of aluminum with bolted steel roll-cage, carbon-fibre composite/aluminium bodywork, Continental radial tyres. Limitless Racing bringing new Audi to Rolex Series

Limitless Racing Press Release

DOVER, N.J. - Newly formed Limitless Racing is campaigning a new Audi R8 GRAND-AM in the highly competitive Rolex GT series and has added rising star Elivan Goulart to pilot and manage their efforts. The team, founded by Dr. Jason Lee of New Jersey, is scheduled to run in at least four GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series GT class events in 2012 with plans to run a full season in 2013.

Goulart is making quite a name for himself, most recently claiming SCCA 2011 Spec Miata National Champion honors, NASA 25 hours of Thunderhill Champion, 2011 SCCA President's Cup award recipient and North East Division Driver of the Year.

"It's an amazing opportunity to be a part of a new team and start on the ground floor of building something that is literally limitless," Goulart said. "I look forward to the challenge of building a new team from the ground floor to eventually top of the podium. Jason is a huge fan of racing and the driving force behind the team. He is providing us the tools to build a great team with amazing potential."

Goulart's father, Ademir Fedumenti, will handle technical and engineering duties for the team. Fedumenti has been around racing as driver and engineer for more than 40 years. He brings a wealth of knowledge with results to back up his credentials.

"My father and engineer has been by my side throughout my entire racing career, and to have him here brings me great confidence in the success of the team," Goulart said.

Goulart's feelings are echoed by Lee.

"The crew we've gathered have shown great attention to detail during the long hours they've spent preparing the car, and I feel strongly that their focus will be a competitive advantage to deliver results," Lee said. "Elivan is a great mentor, team manager and a talented driver. He does a great job at managing the team efficiently and smoothly.

"I would like to thank Ademir, Sascha Pilz, [Engineer for Audi Sport Customer Racing] Brad Kettler [Kettler Motor Werks], and Andrea [Santilli, Audi Marketing Specialist]. I also want to thank Audi Sport for their technical and organizational support," Lee said.

The team plans to compete in at least four Rolex Series races, including New Jersey Motorsports Park, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Watkins Glen International and Lime Rock Park.
